Theatre Actress, Author and Director
From November 12 to November 19, 2018
Sonia Antinori born in Viareggio on 23/04/1963, is a theatre actress, author and director. Her work has been recognised by various awards in playwriting and theatre, both at national and international level. Her texts have been translated in several European languages and have been presented in Italy and abroad. Since 1996 she has been teaching playwriting and acting in public and private institutions. In 2006 she founded the Company MALTE (Music, Art, Literature, Theatre, Etc.) and has since served as its artistic director. With MALTE, she has produced and organised performances, projects, artistic and cultural events, workshops and festivals. From 2013 to 2015 she was artistic director of Wise, a European project on the moral and political heritage of the 20th century. She has also translated from German and English into Italian. In recent years she has been collaborating on international initiatives with the Union de les Théâtres de l’Europe.
As a playwright, I have always intended language as a research topic. This approach comes both from my own experiences abroad and from my work as a translator, especially of Austrian author Werner Schwab, a great creator of linguistic worlds. My reflection on multilingualism peaked during a three-year sojourn on Easter Island, whose local identity is built on a bilingual mixture of Rapanui (a Polynesian language) and Castilian Spanish. Recently, my enquiry about postcolonial transculturalism has generated a theatrical project in Italy involving nonprofessional actors with migratory backgrounds, for which I am currently considering the possibility of follow-ups.
